Detectives from the "Major Investigation Unit" reviewed Nicola's case and decided to launch a new investigation.
A 37 year old man from the Derbyshire area was held over the disappearance of Nicky. He was questioned but later released on police bail pending further inquiries.
Police dig up a garden near where Nicola went missing. Detective Chief Inspector Steve Bimson said police at a house in Winston Avenue in the City were looking for any evidence at all of Nicola's disappearance in 1991.
About 20 specialist officers are involved in the investigation at the house, which is in the Henley Green area of the City, some using radar and x-ray equipment. West Midlands Police said they expected to be there for two or three more days.
Detective Chief Inspector Steve Bimson said they were looking for "anything at all that can give the inquiry some direction". "Whether it's her body, clothing or other items that she may have had on her at the time of her disappearance," he said.
After 2 days Police announce that they have not found any evidence to help unravel the mystery of Nicola's disappearance.
Back in December 1991 Nicola had made a Chirtmas card list and was ticking them off as she wrote them. The police took them for possible DNA samples. After 2 years Marilyn asked for them back but the police said they had been mislaid. When the new police team re-opened the case last year they found them. They had to carry out their own tests first and then returned them to the family.
Nicola had wrote in the card to her son Owen "To our special little boy Owen, Hope you first Christmas is full of fun and laughter with plenty of love too. All our love hugs and kisses Mummy and Daddy XXXXXX."
The card to her parents Marilyn and John read "To mum and dad, thank you for all your help, love you both, happy christmas and merry new year. Love and kisses Nick.
Marilyn and John gave out all of the other cards that Nicola had made out to her family and friends.
Thank you and if you or anyone you know have any information however small, please let us or the police know so that we can all put Nickie to rest and end our heartache.
The £10,000 reward is still on offer. Obviously we would like to know what happened to Nickie and who was involved, but finding Nickie's remains is our priority and the reward will be paid to anyone with just that information. The reward can be paid anonymously and in strictest confidence.
